Vintage Wings & Wheels
Car Show

I have covered all 8 of these very unique car shows. It’s one of my favorite events of the year. It’s held in late October at the Falcon Field Airport in East Mesa. Vintage Wings and Wheels Car Show is put on by Southwest Street Rods, and supports the Commemorative Air Force Museum. The CAF Airbase Arizona at Falcon Field restores and maintains a wonderful group of WWII aircraft and other military aircraft and memorabilia including vintage engines and there’s even a vintage Jet Fighter or two on display. It’s always fascinating to walk through the huge hangers, and see these vintage warbirds up close, along with all of the other interesting items on display. The car show is limited to 200 vehicles, and as always there were beautiful examples of Hot Rods, Muscle Cars & Trucks, Classic Cars, Sports Cars, and some unique one of a kind vehicles. At the Arizona Commemorative Air Force Museum, history and horsepower collided on a crisp autumn morning for the Vintage Wings and Wheels Car Show 2024. The sprawling grounds of the museum, nestled in Mesa, Arizona, came alive with the roar of engines and the whispers of the past. It was a celebration like no other, where classic cars and vintage aircraft stood side by side, each with a tale to tell.

The day began early, as the sun painted the sky in hues of orange and gold. By 8:00 AM, a parade of pre-registered vehicles from 1972 and earlier rolled through the gates, glistening with polished chrome and the care of proud owners. Muscle cars, hot rods, and timeless classics filled the space, each one a tribute to automotive craftsmanship.

Above them, the silhouettes of antique and World War II-era warbirds graced the museum’s airfields. These majestic planes, once symbols of courage and resilience, now stood as reminders of history’s echoes, drawing awe and admiration from attendees.

The air buzzed with energy as food trucks dished out savory and sweet delights, their aromas mingling with the crisp fall air. A professional DJ set the rhythm for the day, spinning tunes that kept spirits high and feet tapping. Families wandered through the exhibits, children pointing with excitement at the vintage planes and gleaming vehicles, while enthusiasts exchanged stories and technical know-how.

For those feeling lucky, a 50/50 raffle and grand prize drawing added an extra layer of excitement. The grand prize—a hefty $1,500 in cash—was a coveted reward for one fortunate participant, sparking friendly competition among the registrants.

The museum itself opened its doors at 9:00 AM, welcoming visitors to explore the rich tapestry of aviation history within. Yet, this event was about more than just admiration and nostalgia. Proceeds supported the Military Assistance Mission, a noble cause providing financial aid and morale support to Arizona military families and post-9/11 Purple Heart recipients.

As the clock struck 2:00 PM, the event wound down, leaving behind memories etched in the minds of attendees. The Vintage Wings and Wheels Car Show 2024 was more than an event—it was a bridge between the past and present, uniting a community through a shared love of craftsmanship, history, and support for those who serve.

For those lucky enough to attend, it was a day to remember, and for those who missed it, a promise of another spectacular gathering in the years to come.
