Arizona has a large group of kids and young adults that participate in Junior Drag racing, recently at the NHRA AZ Nationals on April 5-7 a group of junior racers from both Firebird Motorsport Park and Tucson Dragway had the honor of being invited to display and run an exhibition race. Being able to show off their talent for driving in front of thousands of fans. Fast forward a few weeks to May 11 we watched Arizona Junior Dragsters battle it out at Firebird Motorsports Park first Summit Junior Race of the season. Each class had a field of 7 participants. Starting with the Junior 6–12-year-old class we watched Malachi Phillips and Charlie Edwards battle it out in the final with Malachi dialing a 12.09 and Charlie dialing a 8.90 we all watched as Charlie took the win with an 8.94 over Malachi’s 12.12 ET. Both participates were able to celebrate their accomplishments with their families as they received their first checks of the season.

Charlie was accompanied by her sister, Erin Edwards and her mom and dad- Nicole and Josh Edwards has she a received her first check of the season. Malachi Phillips was also celebrating his runner up with his mom and dad Melissa and Coleman Phillips. As we move on to the 13–17-year-old class we watched as Kayslee Price from Las Vegas battled it out with Aerin Roger’s from Arizona. Kayslee took the win dialing a 7.92 and running a 7.90 over Aerin Roger’s dialing a 7.90 and running a 7.88. This wrapped up our weekend at Firebird Motorsports Park with the Junior Dragsters. We can’t wait to watch them all come back for more racing action on June 1st for summit race #2.
