The 27th annual Buick-Oldsmobile-Pontiac-Cadillac-GMC Show, held March 30 and organized by the Phoenix-based Valley of the Sun Pontiacs Club, was the club’s largestever, with over 260 registered vehicles. More than 100 awards were handed out across 50+ classes, including two special memorial awards for recently lost members. The event took place at the East Valley Institute of Technology (EVIT) in Mesa.
In addition to the wide range of beautiful cars and trucks, nearly $5,000 in raffle prizes were awarded, and the 50/50 drawing topped $1,000. Vendors included classic car shops, custom signage companies, and insurance provider Hagerty. A DJ played classic tunes, and food vendors kept the crowd well-fed. Each year, proceeds benefit EVIT’s Automotive Technologies program for high school students. The Valley of the Sun Pontiacs Club donated $3,000 this year, continuing a long-standing tradition.
Show Chair Carl Bylander, who’s led the event for four years, credited the show’s growth—registrations have doubled since 2019—to dedicated volunteers and constant improvements. “Even with years of experience, there’s a lot of work behind the scenes, from stuffing goodie bags to parking 250+ cars,” he said. Club President Paul Albinger added that show proceeds support local car-related causes and help preserve the car hobby for future generations.
A special highlight this year was a group of Pontiac enthusiasts from California who drove in for the show and joined a pre-event cruise to Tortilla Flats and the Pavilions car show.
