Blessing of the Rods Car Show
When trying to describe the Blessing of the Rods Car Show, it would have to be something along the lines of “Stellar Event,” “Koolsville dripping with awesome,” or “Hands down the best car show in Arizona.” Any of these would capture its essence. The show features the best examples of blue-collar, bloody-knuckled hot rods in the state, accompanied by well selected rockabilly bands to boot. These are true daily drivers—rain or shine— driven machines keeping traditions alive. Garage customs, patina survivors, and flat-out works of art abound, showcasing stunning metal fabrication. With all the eye candy present, you might not notice right away the rockin’ tunes jumping off the large stage. This year’s showcase included a few local favorites—Jamie Walden Trio, Downhill Fast, and Moonlight Howlers—setting the stage for Screamin’ Rebel Angels from New York and Hillbilly Casino from Nashville. A great thanks and appreciation go to The Hell City Saints C.C., who host and present this event every year—great job, guys! Additional car clubs making an appearance that day included The Checs, The Ghostriders, The Lordsmen, The Transplants, The Rattlers, The Pharaohs, The Midnighters, and Gouls and Gasoline, who were there interviewing and filming for their podcast. In this one little guy’s opinion, the Blessing of the Rods is a “Great day of honoring our Veterans, appreciating our country and the incredible machines it has created, enjoying great music, shaking hands, laughing, and hanging out with likeminded folks—simply superb all around!”
