When you are a specialty vehicle automotive shop, you never know what type of vehicle might come into the shop. Every once in a while you get a vehicle in, that you had never worked on before. PRK Automotive had never worked on a Toyota FJ 40 Land Cruiser and low and behold they had two of them on the day l visited. One belongs to former NFL star and current FOX NFL Sunday annalist Howie Long. His 1977 FJ 40 came into the PRK shop powered by a 3 50 Chevy small block V-8. It will leave the shop with a new LS 5.3 liter GM V-8, and a custom PRK engine wiring harness. The engine will now be hooked to a GM 4L60E AOD transmission. The original Toyota 4×4 transfer case will be retained. The brake system will be upgraded with an ABS electric hydro-boost system. Mr. Long’s FJ 40 will also leave with a complete A/C system and new American Auto Wire wiring from front to rear. The 2nd FJ 40 Land Cruiser is a bright yellow 1974 model. It came into the shop with a poorly running GM 4.3 liter V-6. The engine ended up needing a full rebuild, which the PRK shop has already done. They also did a mild cam upgrade and a complete American Auto Wire bumper-to-bumper re-wire. They also re-plumbed the air conditioning system. They fully rebuilt the front suspension and installed a new locker unit in the front differential. This FJ 40 also got the ABS electric hydroboost system for improved stopping. Progress continues on a BAD-ASS 1978 street-strip Camaro. A GM 6.0 liter LS engine had already been installed. PRK is basically finishing the job, plus, they have fabricated and installed a complete twin-turbo charger system. Shop owner Phil has expertly created the complete new turbo piping and custom exhaust system. The entire engine and front clip had to be removed so Phil could re-engineer all of the new plumbing and brackets that were required.
