As always, there were cool and interesting vehicles in the Loper’s Service Center, which specializes in older and vintage cars and trucks. Here are several recent examples.
On the vintage side, I think a 1948 English Austin coupe and an early 1950s Plymouth station wagon would qualify. The Austin looks like a cool bright yellow hot rod, but it’s still powered by its little 4-cylinder engine, which will be fully rebuilt at Loper’s. The modern V-8-powered Plymouth is being fitted with a Holley Sniper EFI system.
Next to the Plymouth, a 1969 Chevelle is getting a new Comp Cams performance cam and new rocker arms. Next to the Chevelle, a ’65 Mustang with its nice-running 200 cubic-inch straight-six engine is being upgraded with a one-barrel Holley Sniper EFI system that includes a new gas tank, electric fuel pump, and a new Holley Hyper-Spark distributor and coil. The Mustang is also receiving some A/C system repairs.
Next to the Mustang, a 1970 Dodge Challenger is being fitted with a new custom-built aluminum radiator to go with the modern 5.7 Hemi engine. Up on a lift, an early ’70s Ford Ranchero will be fitted with a new two-barrel Holley carburetor, a complete tune-up, and a full fluid change.
On the modern vehicle side, a 2017 GMC Denali is receiving a complete 6.2-liter engine rebuild that will include a new cam and lifters to eliminate the dreaded Displacement on Demand system that often fails on these GM trucks.
As always, the Loper’s Performance Center is full of major brand performance and racing parts from companies like Holley, MSD, Edelbrock, ARP, Comp Cams, Flowmaster, MagnaFlow, Auto Meter gauges, NOS nitrous systems, B&M, and many other great companies. The speed shop has a huge inventory, and they can order just about any part you may need.
Loper’s has been at the same location, 902 E. Indian School Rd. in Phoenix, for well over 50 years. Call them at 602-264-5288. Please mention Roddin Arizona when you call or stop by, and there are always free copies of the Roddin AZ newspaper available.
