Volkswagens of the air-cooled type are what Doug’s Buggs in Mesa are famous for. They have a Parts Dept. a full-service Engine Building Dept. and complete VW Service Dept. Here are a few recent examples. I was excited when I saw an all original 1940’s German Kübelwagen in the shop. From the late 1930’s until the end of World War Two, there were over 50,000 of these versatile vehicles produced. The basic engine was a 985cc air-cooled gasoline engine that produced about 25 horsepower. That simple engine design became the engine that powered millions and millions of VW and Porsches for almost 40 years. Doug’s service department is rebuilding the trans-axle and doing some engine tuning. Other cars in for service, were a 1973 VW Bug convertible, that’s getting a fresh in-house built 2180cc engine. Next to it, a sand rail is getting a new carburetor and performance tuning and next in line is a 1971 Bug, that’s receiving a complete electrical system restoration. An awesome looking 1955 street/racing Porsche Spyder replica, powered by a mid-mounted Subureo engine is at Doug’s Buggs
for some racing related brake system upgrades. And, a very rare 1952 VW Bug has been upgraded now with a 1776cc engine, full syncro trans-axle, disc brakes, and it’s been converted to a 12 volt charging & electrical system, plus, they installed a self-contained fire suppression system over the engine. These and the engine photos are nice examples of the VW work you can have done at Doug’s Buggs N Bunnies in Mesa. Call them at 480-962-1101. Please mention Roddin’ Arizona when you call or stop by.
