’32 Ford Roadster Gets a Complete Wiring Makeover

This ’32 Ford roadster came into Pridemore Motorsports with a lot going for it. The chassis was really well done, and the fiberglass body was nicely put together. The problem was the wiring. It was a mess. The lights and accessories were glitchy, the car was hard to start, and there were running problems that made it pretty clear the electrical system needed some serious attention. Rather than trying to chase problems through someone else’s wiring, Pridemore decided to start over. Every piece of wiring was gutted from the car. Nothing was reused. A new American Autowire harness was installed and modified to work with the ’32. An accessory fuse and relay block was mounted in the trunk to handle the electrical components in the rear of the car. New AutoMeter gauges went into the dash. There was also some work needed on the front bumper. The original incandescent light sockets had basically been shoved into the bumper tubing. Those were removed and replaced with sequential LEDs mounted inside the tubing. It makes for a much cleaner installation and gets the lights where they belong. Once everything was rewired, the starting, lighting and running issues could finally be addressed as a system instead of chasing one electrical problem after another. It’s not necessarily the kind of work that gets noticed when the car is sitting at a show. But when you turn the key and everything works like it should, you know the job was done right.
