Advertiser Update – Phoenix Engine

For more than 50 years, Phoenix Engine has been building engines for Arizona’s hot rodders, muscle car owners, truck enthusiasts and racers. Founded by Randy DiRocco, the company grew from his early days working on cars and his passion for performance. From building engines for Chevelles, Camaros, Mustangs and Challengers to creating high-performance 4x4s like his famous “Big Red” ’71 Chevy Blazer, Randy built a reputation for horsepower that could also be driven and depended on. Today, sons David and Nick continue that family tradition, with Phoenix Engine building both stock and performance engines and shipping them nationwide.

Ford and Chevy engines remain a house specialty, along with the ever-popular GM LS series. Phoenix Engine builds LS engines such as the 5.3-liter with either modern Holley EFI or a more traditional four-barrel carburetor setup. Other combinations include 383 stroker small blocks and complete serpentine systems. All the boring, honing, decking and related machine work is done in-house, allowing Phoenix Engine to maintain control over the quality of the build from the machine shop to final assembly. After more than 250,000 custom rebuilt engines, the company has seen just about every combination of car, truck and engine imaginable.

One of Phoenix Engine’s standout services is its Fast Track Super Tuning process. Engines are run on an advanced stand that simulates real-world conditions, allowing the technicians to break in the cam and seat the rings, check carburetion, timing and oxygen sensors, and fine-tune the combination through repeated run cycles. The engine is then taken through a red-line break-in before final diagnostics are completed, with the customer receiving a computer printout of the timing specifications or a Holley Sniper readout. The result is a true ready-to-run, out-of-the-box engine.
