Rebuilding, balancing, installing new U-joints, and custom-building car and truck driveshafts — including semi truck driveshafts —is a big part of the Rip’s Performance business in Apache Junction. A freshly modified (longer) driveshaft is shown on the balancing machine as the final step in the process. The shop also handles differential rebuilding and upgrades such as gear changes, axles, positraction, and other modifications, and they build and maintain circle track race cars. The #7 IMCA Stock Car was fully built in-house a few years ago. In 2025, Rip’s driveshaft specialist Trevor Hidalgo won three races in the car and also captured the Track Championship at Central Arizona Raceway.
Rip’s Performance mechanic Mike Berdge recently won the Mechanics Race driving the #A5 Pure Stock race car. The #9 IMCA Hobby Stock race car is currently at the shop for an engine replacement. A 1965 Chevy C-10 pickup also received a carrier bearing modification related to its 9” Ford rear end; the shop performed a gear change on it last year.
