Michael D’s Kustom Koaches

Michael is an old-school car builder with well over 35 years of hands-on, detail-oriented experience. He can repair, custom-build, or modify your special vehicle exactly the way you want it. Welding and fabrication are a big part of most jobs, and Mike is highly skilled at both.

Here are some recent examples of his work. Currently, he is custom-building a 1938 Chevy two-door coupe. The custom modifications being built into this unique Street Rod are countless. They include complete front and rear suspension upgrades, with a Heidts Super Ride front suspension featuring rack-and-pinion steering. The car is equipped with Vintage Air A/C with heat and defrost, with all A/C lines hidden under the fenders. A full complement of Dakota Digital electronic gauges is housed in a vintage-looking gauge pod, and the A/C vents were custom fabricated and positioned to fit the 80-year-old car.

Power comes from a fully rebuilt 1960 Chevy 348 topped with triple carbs (Tri-Power). The engine required custom motor mounts to fit properly, as did the 700R4 overdrive transmission.

Another project is a 1946 Ford F1 pickup, where Mike restored the original fenders, grille, and hood, and also fitted and installed new aftermarket running boards. A 1956 Oldsmobile 88 arrived at the shop partially painted but not fully assembled. Before final assembly, Mike custom-fabricated a new radiator core support, created a new throttle and brake pedal assembly, and built four new A/C vents—two of which cleverly use the original dual cigarette ashtrays. He installed all of the original and rebuilt gauges and relocated the battery into an old Coca-Cola ice chest that he modified and mounted in the trunk. After that, he installed all side moldings, trim, grille, and bumpers.
