50 years and counting this event has been the cornerstone of classic car events in the greater Prescott area. It was formed in 1970 Prescott Antique Auto Club (PAAC), city of Prescott has less than 15000 folks back then. This author has been a member for just a fraction of that time and have grown to appreciate what they do for our community and car culture, making membership an honor. The event featured Car Show, Swap Meet, Car Corral and Old Engine fire up both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday is the big day with most of classic cars and trucks of the Quad Cities coming to pay homage to our Culture. Much to this author’s pleasure Sunday is judged as a new event with the feature cars was Volkswagens and first responder, this author has much history with showing for decades in that unique world. While drawing nearly 400 participants over the two-day event that brings in over approximately 6000 spectators to see the classics. What a location with its scenic boulders, cool grass, and the inviting shoreline of the lake. This author enjoyed trying to get photos of the kool rides with some local background, location made this a pleasure. To be selected for a trophy is an honor as the members make the trophies with 40 presented was an art event in its right! The parts exchange/swap meet, one of the largest in the quad cities, makes this event a must go as you might find that rare part, missing piece or hidden treasure. The Old Engine Fire Up you get to see a variety of old gas and steam engines as well as antique machinery. It’s a pleasure to see this old iron come alive and the unique sound and noises they bring to the event.
Saturday the registration line was managed well by members and workers such that you got your band and parked with ease and at your convenience came to the registration desk to either check in or register. Yes, they have done this 49 times and have it figured out, good job PAAC. If you wanted to park in a group, you have to notify show car coordinator at PAACAZ.com, which is no problem. The goodie bag had lots of goodies including an issue of Roddn’AZ for your reading pleasure. Coffee and donuts were available in the morning while many lunch options gave you choices. New this year at the Watson Lake Car Show – car show and car theme vintage t’s on vintage flannels. One-of-a-kind shirts!! Lot of variety and sizes to choose from. New! Also new was a Silent Auction Saturday & Sunday which was well received based on bids and items!
PAAC is by far the largest classic car/truck group in the Quad Cities and growing steadily. They meet monthly 2 nd Wednesday 630 at the PAAC club house. Every Tuesday each week from 9:00 till Noon many club members meet at the club house mainly to drink coffee, eat doughnuts, and swap lies. Yes, this club likes donuts LOL. Prescott Antique Auto Club offers annual scholarships to students currently pursuing automotive related degrees or those looking to enter other trades. In addition, they started an endowment fund which will ensure future scholarships in perpetuity. Mark your calendars for next year’s new date June 13-14, next year’s date! This being a great year for participation, was a two-day event in support of our future automotive culture.
