AZ Summer… Stay Cool!
My my, it doesn’t seem possible that this is already the August issue, (written on July 25th). As Arizona summers go, this has so far been one of the mildest I can remember in a long long time. Unfortunately, another summer with virtually no monsoon rains in the valley and not that much in the high country either. As I mentioned last month, l finished the full body prep and then painted my 1965 Mustang. The car looks so good but I’ve had really only one call on it so far. To me, that just goes directly to the fact that we live in the hottest place in America during the summers, and hundreds of thousands of people leave here during summer, and us that live here full time, sort of hunker down and try to stay as cool as possible. I’m not discouraged at all, I love looking at the Mustang in my garage and think dang I did that. It will sell when the right person, that’s looking for a really nice 1960’s daily drivable muscle car sees it, they will love it.
Shown here is the 1962 Ford F-100 pickup, that l bought sight-on-seen several months back, and had it shipped here from Northern Nevada. This old Farm Truck Work Horse has the straight six engine and 4 speed manual transmission with the granny low gear. For the last couple of months, I’ve been doing body prep, leading to a good solid 20 footer paint job. It’s a 63 year old running, driving, truck, that’s never going to be a show truck, unless someone wants to spend the thousands and thousands of dollars it would require to transform it into a show truck. The wheels it arrived with, were lets just say CRUSTY, and the tires were CRACKED and old. I spent many hours looking for better wheels and tires and finally found these perfect replacements that have dramatically improved the look and drivability. September will be here soon enough, and you know what that means right?? Yes, lower humidity and cooler day and night temps, but I’m a drag racer, and in late September there’s a big bracket race at Firebird, then one week later it’s the NHRA Division 7 Summit Racing Series Bracket Finals right here at Firebird.
Hope you enjoy the rest of your summer!!!
