46th Annual Run to the Sun

Presented by Relics & Rods

The Relics & Rods Car club has raised nearly One Million dollars since the first car show in 1978, 1st annual to the 46th annual Run to the Sun, held in Lake Havasu City. The event’s purpose is to be a fundraiser to assist local charities. The Run to the Sun is open to all hot rods & classic cars including 1978 to current year American Factory Muscle Cars as well as Corvettes.

The Mission of Relics & Rods, non-profit classic car club, is to preserve our love for classic cars and support local charities through our annual Run to the Sun. 2024 was no exception in the quality of the event, raising funds for charity and having fun with classic cars folks.

Registration on Wednesday morning was a breeze, and this author was able to pick my packet and get our parking assignment within 15 minutes of getting there giving event participants quality time to see old friends, meet new friends and talk motorhead talk during the registration since they had plenty of places to sit and kibitz as we classic car folks do. It was impressive how many event workers made this registration process enjoyable as well as the entire event, everywhere you looked you could see event staff.

Thursday the morning started out at dark thirty with participants lined up outside the gate and 9am 500 folks found their favorite parking spot which was theirs for the event weekend. I like this since you can show up Friday/Saturday and your location is set with friends and fellow enthusiast. The highlight of Thursday was the Cruise on Main Street – McCullah Blvd. Literally hundreds of cars lined the street on both sides and endless line of spectators there to enjoy their favorite cars and just taken in the koolness of this event. Oh yes, there was a poker run in the morning for those early risers, LOL.

Friday morning was casual as you entered the show grounds and set up your ride. The swap meet was up and running with something for
everyone as well as cars for sale at the car corral. Lots of giveaways during the day as well as Rock Crawlers on display. Dinner was included in your entry at Convention Center, well attended by participants which gave us more time to talk motorhead with friends and fellow hot rodders ending with a concert/dance at the Convention Center.

Saturday was more of the same as Friday. Today included a Ladies Fashion Show for Lady Hot Rodders. Radio Controlled Boat Races as well as Beard/Mustache contest for those brave souls. This event was judged, and awards were presented with award winners being photographed. The award presentation followed after 4pm with many kool rides being recognized.

Sunday being the final day with a Farewell Coffee at Birch Square with Charity Pancake Breakfast at Foothills bank then back on the road back home. It was a well-attended and excellent event by highest standards and don’t miss next year as this is the premier event in Arizona that you do not want to miss for sure.
